My Story

In the first 40 years of my life, I equated femininity with weakness and risk. However, pregnancy, giving birth and breastfeeding put me in touch with the power of the feminine as creator, birther and protector of Life.

I have dedicated much of my life to recovering my personal worth intellectually, embracing my spiritual nature and regaining emotional strength. Much as I had worked for decades in a body/mind/movement discipline, my connection to my own physical nature as sovereign woman still needed to be wrestled from the clutches of male supremacy.

At age 51, at last owning my femininity from body to soul, I was faced with the threat of invasive and advanced breast cancer.

At the loss of my precious breasts, my grief unleashed the power of my true voice. It all began alone, with writing.

Poetry came first. My rage was kept in check between the lines; pain turned into rhythm and beat. A week of artist-in-residence at The Sunset Theatre in Wells, BC gave me the space, solitude, permission and support to let a whole monologue come pouring out of the dark. And so Breastless was birthed.

Your Story

This is you - some or all of it - and you are not alone.

You kept a diary as a child.

You wrote out song lyrics as a teen.

You played with rhyme and silly syllables!

You wrote a piece in English class, but it was not met with a good reaction, so you decided you weren’t good at writing. You put down the pen and read others’ words instead.

You became a bookworm.

You learned a lot about life that way and saw yourself in others’ stories, but you lost that connection to the pen, to writing your own ideas into presence on a page.

You long to get back to writing and how it used to feel.

I want that for you too.

Your story matters. It matters that you know it and can see the narrative you create beneath the facts of your life.

It also matters that you share it and add to the collective voice of connection and compassion that are so tragically missing from our culture and so urgently needed.

How can we ever hope to understand each other and our multi-faceted viewpoints if we don’t share our stories?

Please write! We need your voice.

Us Together

We are better together.

Behind my desire to work with others is a sense of urgency that we might all retrieve some basic “feminine” principles of compassion, connection, nurture and care. As individuals for ourselves and as a collective force for humanity.

I believe that writing together and understanding the meaning we make of life is a powerful, necessary way to heal our rifts and bring us closer together.

The 3 key elements I bring to my work with you:

I encourage you to write and listen, listen and write, so you expand into becoming the expert in yourself.

I help you to write from your inner gut-knowing and joyful spirit as you own the life-force within you and write your own script, not get written into someone else’s.

I celebrate you and encourage sharing with others to build confidence that you are not alone and to remind you that we all need the recognition and reflection of each other.

And by doing so, we heal.
